Course overview

This qualification describes the skills and knowledge of individuals who work as senior operators/technicians or production specialists in the pulp and paper manufacturing industry. In these roles, individuals plan and implement activities according to production plan, provide technical advice and support to, or lead a small team, and apply specialist skills in troubleshooting and rectifying complex pulp and papermaking production problems relating to equipment, process, output and quality.

These individuals may apply their specialist skills in one or more of the following pulping and papermaking operational areas:

  • wet end
  • dry end
  • pulping
  • stock preparation and handling
  • chemical recovery
  • electrical power generation
  • paper finishing and converting
  • primary resource
  • steam generation
  • recovered fibre
  • water services.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply this qualification at the time of publication, however a high risk work licence may be required depending on the type of equipment used for the steam and power generation unit sectors.
